Nasdaq takes first steps to independence

Wall Street banks yesterday began unwinding their positions in Nasdaq after the US exchange launched a secondary offering aimed at separating it from its majority owner, the National Association of Securities Dealers.

The NASD, a regulator for US brokers, reduced its stake from 54.7% to 37% following the $155m (€120m) sale.
