Nasdaq to make derivatives leap as Philadelphia deal confirmed

Nasdaq Stock Market will make its first big leap into the US derivatives trading business by purchasing the Philadelphia Stock Exchange for $652m (€443m) it confirmed today, with the transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2008.

The boards of the New York-based electronic exchange and the Philadelphia market approved the deal late yesterday.
