National Grid surprises with €500m bond

National Grid Transco, the UK energy group, is taking advantage of cheap borrowing in the floating rate note market to launch a €500m (€614m) bond to help fund the recent £1.1bn (€1.6bn) acquisition from Crown Castle, a US group which leases mobile phone masts.

The bond is being arranged by Bank of America, Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.
