Neil Woodford is to close down his fund management business, bringing an abrupt end to a four decades-long career in investment management.

The 59-year-old portfolio manager, once touted as the UK’s answer to legendary American investor Warren Buffett, announced last night that he had taken the “highly painful decision” to close the doors on Woodford Investment Management, a business he built from scratch in 2014.
