Harriet Maunsell, deputy chair of the Occupational Pensions Board, is to take over from the retiring John Hayes as chairman of the UK pensions regulator.

Hayes, who retires next March, was the first chairman of the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (Opra) when it launched five years ago.
