New issuance likely to be strong

Fixed-income players predict flourishing final quarter

The capital markets are finally waking up after the summer lull. Fixed income players are predicting that their business will continue to flourish as they prepare for the traditionally frantic period of new issuance ahead of the fourth quarter.

Telecoms and auto-finance firms, which have been stalwart new issuers in recent months, will continue to raise debt capital, albeit in smaller size and with shorter-dated maturities, bankers say. Utilities and industrials are also likely to provide welcome liquidity in the new issues market as a wider range of corporates begin to take a serious look at issuing bonds.
