News in brief: Darby appoints ex-Mexican minister as chairman

Darby Overseas Investments, the Latin American private equity specialist, has appointed Pedro Aspe as chairman of its new Darby Technology Ventures (DTV) corporate advisory board.

Aspe was formerly Mexico's minister of finance. Darby set up DTV last year, to provide advisory services and investment in Latin American companies to increase corporate efficiency. Nicholas Brady, the firm's chairman and founder, and himself a former US secretary of the treasury, said: &quotWe see DTV becoming a major investor and adviser to new technology companies across Latin America and our success will depend on the advice we receive from the region's leaders. Aspe plays an important business role today, after having been a prime architect of economic policies in Mexico in the 1990s.&quot DTV's equity partners include IBM, Comcast Interactive Capital, Bechtel Enterprises, Franklin Resources and a number of Latin American investors.
