Jeremy Hale, former manager of Gartmore's failed macro hedge fund, is to join Big Sky Capital, the US hedge fund, to launch its London office. He will be head of European strategy, taking over the role held by Philippe Peress, who left a few months ago.

Hale is a former Tiger Management employee, as is Big Sky's chief investment officer, Peter Early. Early was in charge of managing Tiger Management's Asian trading desk. After working at Tiger and BNP Paribas, Hale was part of the fixed-income portfolio management team at Gartmore, a post he left following the closure of the macro fund last September.
