City bosses must publicly rebuke politicians pushing for an economically punishing split from Europe or prepare for the most "uncompromising" Brexit, according to Nick Clegg, the former deputy prime minister of the UK.

The warning follows Monday's announcement that European Union and UK negotiators had agreed provisional terms for a transition period that would enable financial services firms to continue to operate in the EU until the end of 2020.
