The firms that will underpin a new trading landscape away from stock exchanges in Europe are starting to emerge.

Sun Trading, an electronic trading firm, has come to an agreement with Instinet, the agency broker owned by Japanese investment bank Nomura, in preparation for incoming European Union rules for trading equities.
