Nomura to review investment bank after big Lehman writedown

Japanese bank takes $746m hit linked to Instinet and Lehman Brothers businesses

Japanese bank Nomura swung to a loss last quarter after taking an ¥81bn ($746m) writedown on two high-profile acquisitions made more than a decade ago.

The goodwill writedown was linked to Nomura’s purchases of US broker Instinet in 2007 and Lehman Brothers’ European and Asian operations a year later.
