Sampo of Finland's termination of its bid for Norwegian insurance group Storebrand could signal the end of Nordic financial institutions major mergers and acquisitions activity in the near future, according to sources close to the deal.
One banker close to the deal said: "At the moment it is going to be very difficult to strike any transaction in the region because of the volatility of the share prices. With all of the uncertainty in the markets we are not going to see any significant deals until the market stabilises."
