Northern Trust Global Advisors, the US multi-manager group, has named Andrew Smith as chief investment officer, following a series of high-profile departures from the funds division.

Smith, former director of Northern Trust Global Advisors in Canada, will now be responsible for the group's manager research and portfolio building processes.
