Northern Trust boosts hedge fund unit

Custody giant eyes bigger slice of the hedge fund servicing market with £100m US acquisition

Northern Trust has become the latest global custodian to strengthen its business serving alternative asset managers, as returning investor confidence drives assets in the hedge fund industry to record levels.

Northern Trust has paid $100m in cash for hedge fund administrator Omnium, a US-based firm that services around $70bn in client assets across offices in Chicago, New York, Hong Kong and Bermuda.
