NTL paid banks fees of $282m for bond issues

NTL, which last week persuaded investors to swap $10.6bn (&euro12bn) worth of debt into equity, paid banks $282m to issue its bonds in the first place, according to analysis by Financial News.

Had the telecoms group failed to reach an agreement with its bond investors, it would have been the world's largest ever bond default.
