One in five DB schemes closed to new members

Twenty percent of final salary schemes in the UK have now been closed to new members and more closures are imminent.

According to a survey by the market research consultancies Pension Fund Partnership and MRM Projects, the proportion of closed defined benefits (DB) is markedly higher for smaller schemes, those with assets of less than £50m (€78.1m). Nearly one in three of these has already closed its doors to new entrants.
