Osborne reveals Project Merlin details

Chancellor of the Exchequer says the UK's Big Four banks will pay smaller bonuses – and will disclose the pay of their five top earners

The Big Four UK banks will have to reduce total bonus payments and disclose the pay of their five highest-paid executives, under the terms of Project Merlin unveiled by Chancellor George Osborne today.

Announcing details of the government's pact with the banking industry to Parliament, Osborne echoed the sentiment of Barclays chief executive Bob Diamond that the time for recrimination was over.
