Hedge fund outflows worsen

Hedge funds are having a tough second half, with September net outflows the highest since early 2009 and managers missing the equity bounce in October

New figures published today suggest outflows from hedge funds were far worse than expected, topping $30bn in September as investors fled from volatile global markets.

Data from Societe Generale show that monthly outflows for all hedge fund strategies combined amounted to $33bn in September alone, ahead of earlier estimates of net outflows of $19.3bn in the third quarter, according to data providers eVestment Alliance and HFN.
