Passive managers in demand as stars reshuffle the pack

Former active managers are now backing index trackers

Evangelists for passive management are winning converts. Managers once responsible for billion-pound active portfolios have begun advocating index trackers, launching three UK companies over the past year that focus on allocating assets using passive funds.

They believe investors will flock to them, following the long-term trend for institutional lenders to shift their assets into low-cost passive strategies. However, investors disagree over how best to apply their investment decisions.
