A legal victory for a trading software company could have repercussions for exchanges

An escalating row over trading software patents in the US could bring sweeping changes to the derivatives industry.

Trading Technologies, a trading software company, triggered the row in August by suing eSpeed, the spin-off of bond brokerage Cantor Fitzgerald, for patent infringement. Trading Technologies claimed eSpeed had marketed a version of its futures trading software under its own brand.
