Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) is unlikely to replace Jeff Peek, vice-chairman and head of financial services, if he decides to take up an offer to join CIT Group, the US consumer financial services company.

Peek is understood to have been in talks with CIT about taking on a senior role, potentially paving the way for occupation of its chief executive slot, less than two years after joining CSFB. News of the talks has leaked prematurely, however, and may yet jeopardise Peek's CIT talks.
