Pension funds must rise to alternatives challenge

Institutional investors need to be prepared for the obstacles associated with investing in alternative asset classes, a leading consultant has warned.

Alternative asset classes can be difficult to access and the cost of investing can be high, particularly when allocating to hedge funds, said Andrew Kirton, head of investment consulting for Europe at Mercer Investment Consulting, speaking at the European Pensions and Saving Summit in Barcelona.
