Pensions safety net doubles levy to £575m

The UK's Pension Protection Fund is asking UK companies for £575m (€848.7m) to help underwrite the scheme to save workers' retirement incomes.

The size of the levies for 2006/2007, set today, is almost double the £300m the government first estimated.
