CQS, the investment firm founded by Sir Michael Hintze, is celebrating a year of positive performance amid tough conditions for some of the hedge fund industry’s biggest names.

The firm’s flagship Directional Opportunities fund, managed by Hintze, is up 11.3% in the year to the end of October, according to a person familiar with the situation, in contrast to a 3.2% loss last year. This represents the $3.1bn fund’s best performance since 2016, when it was up more than 30%.
