Philipp snares Merrill Lynch's Hughes for DeAM

Michael Philipp, chief executive of Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM), has hired Thomas Hughes, former head of global securities financing at Merrill Lynch, to become DeAM's chief operating officer.

Hughes, seen as quietly competent in the industry, is set to replace Mark Gelnaw, who has now been appointed chief operating officer to DeAM's alternative investment business, which manages $30bn (€33bn).
