Pioneer Investments, the fund management firm, has strengthened its alternative investment capabilities with the appointment of Paolo Barbieri as head of alternative investment sales in Italy.

Barbieri has 11 years' hedge fund experience. He joins Pioneer from Akros Alternative Investments, where he was general manager.
