Platinum Equity, the US private buyout firm specialising in the technology sector, has made its largest European acquisition to date and plans to be more active in the region.

The firm is set to acquire the European enterprise distribution operations of Alcatel, the French telecoms equipment manufacturer. The division has revenues of €1.5bn ($1.3bn), and Platinum will use existing funds to finance the deal.
