Plummeting oil price puts private equity billions at risk

Private equity investment in the oil and gas sector reached the highest amount in at least a decade last year

A historic fall in oil prices is set to cause problems for some private equity firms.

Some of the world’s biggest buyout firms including Blackstone Group and KKR have pumped billions of dollars into oil and gas assets in recent years, betting that the companies would benefit as oil prices rebounded from a slump that ended in 2016.
