PM hires veteran banker Vereker to soothe relations with the City

Theresa May has appointed a UBS investment banker to help her "strengthen government relations" with UK businesses, as City fears grow that the country will crash out of the European Union without a deal.

William Vereker, a 30-year veteran of the investment banking sector and supporter of Brexit, will take on the role of the Prime Minister’s business envoy on September 3, according to a statement from Downing Street.
