Daily trading volumes in Italian government bonds have beaten records set during the 2011 eurozone debt crisis this month, amid the political turmoil and investor unrest engulfing the country.

In the week of May 14, average daily volumes in the sovereign debt hit €3.9bn, according to data released on Tuesday by Tradeweb, one of Europe's biggest bond-trading platforms.
