The City of London Corporation, which oversees the Square Mile, is set to convert one of the area’s busiest roads into a 24-7 zero-emissions street — a move that could be rolled out across the City if successful.
In a statement published on December 16, the corporation announced that vehicles travelling down Beech Street, the often-congested and fume-filled road that runs underneath the Barbican Estate, will need to produce zero emissions from the spring of 2020. Cyclists and pedestrians will also be able to take this route, the governing body said.
