Portugal Telecom, fighting off a €10.7bn ($13bn) hostile bid from local rival Sonae, has added Goldman Sachs to its stable of four existing investment banking advisers.

A spokesman for Goldman Sachs confirmed the appointment and said Antonio Borges and Richard O'Toole, both managing directors in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, have resigned their positions as Sonae board members.
