Pound slumps as May reportedly calls off Brexit vote

Crunch vote in UK parliament had been expected tomorrow evening, but now looks set for eleventh-hour delay

The pound dropped to its lowest levels in 18 months amid reports the UK prime minister has today cancelled a landmark parliamentary vote on her government’s Brexit agreement.

Sterling slumped to trade at 1.2654 against the US dollar by 12:34 GMT on December 10, its lowest level in more than a year. The FTSE 100 also dropped 26 points, to 6773.5.
