Buyout activity hits the buffers

Buyouts hit a nine-year low in the second quarter, while fundraising remains on course for its worst year on record

The global buyout industry experienced its quietest quarter for nearly nine years in the three months to the end of June as the eurozone crisis and macro economic uncertainty took their toll.

There were 321 deals worth a total value of $34.8bn in the second quarter, according to Dealogic, down from 429 deals worth $35.6bn in the first three months of the year.
