Buyout firms Carlyle Group and CVC Capital Partners have launched a joint venture to invest in large-scale oil and gas deals as buyouts in the sector surged to record levels last year.

Carlyle and CVC have formed Neptune Oil & Gas, an investment vehicle based in London, according to a statement.
