More private equity funds are seeking money than ever before, but investors are increasingly cautious as the value of buyout deals declines, according to the latest data.

The figures, from industry analyst Preqin, show activity slowed during the second quarter of 2019, even though generalist buyout funds have $952bn in unspent cash – on which investors typically pay fees.
