SJ Berwin merges with Asian law firm

The deal is the first major merger between a China-headquartered law firm and one from the UK

UK law firm SJ Berwin is combining with Asian giant King & Wood Mallesons to create the world’s biggest Asia-headquartered law firm, in the first major merger between China-headquartered and UK-headquartered law firms.

The merger will create an entity with 2,233 lawyers globally and revenues of around $1 billion, according to a statement from SJ Berwin. The deal will create a top-25 law firm globally, the statement said. The new firm will be headquartered in China.
