Private equity retains its dominance

While the sluggish German economy is forcing companies to seek foreign acquisitions, it is becoming attractive to private equity firms seeking growth opportunities.

Private equity firms accounted for more than 20% of German M&A activity last year but resurgent corporates with strong balance sheets are out-bidding them in auctions. However, bankers agree private equity is entering the next phase of its cycle and expect sales by portfolio companies.
