A US networking group for senior women in private equity that expanded to London and Asia last year has now opened its first African offshoot, amid a broader focus across the industry on how to redress the gender imbalance in its ranks.

The Private Equity Women Investor Network, a US networking group for senior women working in the sector, held its first meeting at the Johannesburg office of US private equity firm Carlyle Group on February 16.
