Private placement bonds gain ground

Starved of bank lending, European companies are turning to the private placement market for funds, often going to the much larger US market

Cutbacks in bank lending have forced European companies to tap two other sources of funds: the public bond market and the private placement market, which is also known as the private bond market.

Private placement is where a company can source funding typically from one or a small handful of investors in return for yield. Investors are usually large pension funds or asset managers and deals do not need to be registered or listed on an exchange.
