Profits rise 20% at Barclays Capital and Barclays Global Investors

The investment banking and fund management arms of UK-based bank Barclays, saw their operating profits rise by 20%, with Barclays Capital earning £685m (€1.1bn) and Barclays Global Investors (BGI) £71m.

The two businesses grew faster than the rest of Barclays Plc, whose overall operating profits were £4.1bn. The group employs 78,600 people worldwide, for an average salary of £45,000.
