Prudential writes off US telecom defaults

Prudential, one of the largest UK insurers, has admitted bond losses of $228m (€230m), mainly in failed telecoms firms WorldCom and Adelphia.

Jackson National Life, the UK insurer's US subsidiary, was forced to write down $120m in WorldCom, which earlier this week filed for protection from its creditors after revealing debts of around €40bn.
