Why public pension reform might send private-school fees soaring

One of Lord Hutton's money-saving ideas has received less attention than it warrants - kicking private-school teachers out of the generous public scheme

Here's an interesting pensions question: If the UK government is so keen to save money, then should the taxpayer really be underwriting the pensions of private, profit-making schools? And if it didn't, then would those schools' fees have to rise dramatically?

The question has been brought to our attention by John Broome-Saunders, the outspoken actuarial director at consultants Broadstone. That's the new name for BDO Investment Management, following a recent partial buyout of the unit from the BDO group.
