Putnam fires a further nine

Putnam Investments, the US fund manager fined as part of the country's mutual fund scandal, has fired a further nine employees following an internal investigation into trading practices.

This brings the total number of employees let go as a result of the scandal to 15. Lawrence Lasser, former chief executive, resigned in the midst of the probes as several large clients pulled billions of dollars from the company.
