PwC gets $5m fine for using WorldCom tricks

PriceWaterhouse Coopers broke US accounting rules with 16 companies over a five-year period -but the accounting giant has escaped with a $5m (€5m) fine from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC found that PwC compromised its auditors' independence and in one case encouraged a client to employ the same type of accounting trick used by WorldCom in its $3.9bn fraud.
