Qatar set to gain control of Canary Wharf

Songbird Estates says largest shareholders agree to QIA and Brookfield bid

Qatar set to gain control of Canary Wharf

Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund and Canadian investors Brookfield Property Partners are set to gain control of London’s Canary Wharf business district in a deal worth £2.6 billion ($3.94 billion).

The hostile takeover, which would be the UK's largest real estate deal, underscores the appeal of prime real estate in London to cash-rich international investors hunting for yield, following Qatar's acquisition of the city's largest office building last month.
