Qatar National Bank breaks into private equity

Qatar National Bank has joined the growing crowd of Gulf companies moving into private equity with a tie-up with a UK-based venture capital boutique.

The bank, which is half owned by the Qatari government, has created a joint venture company called Qatar Capital Partners to focus on developing technology within Qatar. The new company received approval from Qatari regulators on March 29 and will initially manage two funds investing in companies within the Qatar Science & Technology Park.
