Quester, the venture capital company, has invested £3m (€4.8m) in a spinoff of the National Film and Televisions School's research laboratory, Createc, at a time when venture capitalists are looking more actively at UK universities as a source of intellectual property.

Anthropics, the lab's wireless technology spinoff, raised £6m in its second round of fundraising. More than 310 new businesses have been spun out of 37 UK universities over the past three years, according to a survey by FirstStage Capital, the corporate finance house.
