Rate rise hopes mask fears of essential banking reform

Many bankers are watching for the smallest signal that interest rates will rise in Europe. But this might not be simply because an increase would be great for their profit and loss accounts.

Perhaps the real reason banks are hoping for a rise is because it would give them the perfect excuse to postpone the painful but much needed decision of how to rebuild themselves.
