Kevin Smith, who has become the second senior dealmaker to leave Standard Chartered in recent months, has joined RBC Capital Markets as part of its push to build up its investment banking activities in the region.

Last year, RBC declared its intention to double the number of investment bankers working out of its London office. Just last November the Canadian bank hired Mark Preston, former head of UK investment banking at JP Morgan Cazenove, to head up its UK advisory business.
